Microsoft Launches New Social Networking site-called Socl. After Google’orkut , Facebook ,myspace,tagged,hi5, Here is Microsoft’s turn to go for social Networking site. Well primarily this site is for students!!.

Software giant pronounced this as "social". According to Microsoft, is an experimental research project developed by the company's FUSE Labs focused on exploring the possibilities of social search for the purpose of learning." is not meant to replace existing full-featured search and social networking tools. It is an experimental research project using a minimal set of features which help combine search with the social network for the purpose of learning."
As per FAQ: "We expect students to continue using products such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other existing social networks, as well as Bing, Google and other search tools.
As per MSDN blog: More importantly, is designed to offer a secure environment for students to discover new topics of interest and share this with their classmates and beyond. A global classroom or study group is potentially now only a click away!

The important log in aspect is so simple. It requires facebook or windows live’s valid log in credentials. But yes ..after giving your facebook or live credential like lady gaga’s website it relays on email invitation.
“Thanks for joining the waiting list. We'll email you an invitation soon.”---that is what I got after tried to join through facebook.!!!!

As per the Microsoft's demand
  • combines social networking and search, to help people find and share interesting web pages in the way students do when they work together.
  • helps you create rich posts, by assembling montages of visual web content.
  • To encourage interaction and collaboration, provides rich media sharing, and real time sharing of videos via "video parties."
A “bookmarklet" function adds a "Share on" button to your web browser making it a cinch to collaborate and share searches with others.
Let’s look at the video Microsoft has made-
How it works: search is powered by Bing. Microsoft uses the public Bing APIs to display search result data. As students work together, they often look for the same content, and discover new shared interests by sharing results. These results can be web pages, images, or videos found through Bing. experiments on this concept by letting users share links as they search.
The new social networking site helps users connect with other people based on what they're researching.
Web content is shared via features such as Explore, Feed, Post and Video Parties said technology blog service Technorati. The website’s link sharing reminds me about pinrest and stumble upon.

One more important aspect is to share video at one click. is described as "an experiment in open search", tying in the company's Bing search engine to provide easy access to socially-shared information.---humm interesting to see how social network can boost bing search. It is off course an opportunity for Microsoft to take advantages of facebook and google’s not sharing rule.

Important Note:
One thing to note before you use the service; Technorati also said that all of the user's data on So.Cl are public by default unless you change it them to 'private' via the settings section.
